Easily one of the country’s most loved social media darlings, Jessica van Heerden is known for her immaculate re-conception of content creation as we have come to know it. Always looking to raise the bar; her creative flair, ingenuity, and passion is evident even to strangers who know her only from the internet.

Towards the end of her BCom Marketing studies, Jessica knew that she wasn’t keen on going the nine to 5 route, and so began what would form the foundation of her career. When her Mom asked her what her plan post-school was, she confidently responded “you wait and see – I’ll make you proud!” From pageant girl to Instagram sensation with nothing more than a love for beauty, a ring light, and a personality to boot; Jessica has built her reputation and brand one content piece at a time.

“I realised quite soon that sometimes, my work was the only thing that would bring a smile on someone else’s face. Understanding this has fuelled my conviction of being their best friend behind the screen, but also someone who is in touch with the people and world around her”, says Jess on her work that she so lovingly shares with the world.

Reflecting on the year that’s been, Jess recounts how although it’s been marred with loss and devastation, it has helped many of us to remember what matters most: human connection, empathy and the time we’re so often short of when it comes to being with the ones we love. On a professional level, Jess believes that the pandemic has helped brands to hone in on digital advertising and brand collaboration with influencers, which is a step in the right direction. Content creators have also been able to give more thought and effort to their output, which is giving the industry some much needed revamping.

By her own admission, Jessica hedges her own bets and is always on the lookout to better herself by any means necessary. It’s not enough for her that she has graced the covers of one of the country’s biggest glossy titles; or that she is recognised by industry peers as a pioneer and kingmaker – this woman is set to do things on a grander scale, both at home and abroad.

On dreams for the future, she is resolute on one thing: and it’s that she’s going to work for the platform to collaborate with some of this continent’s most prominent and recognisable faces on some ground-breaking things. With Jess’ work ethic, zeal for life, and yearning for success; we don’t doubt for one moment that she’s going to make it happen – and make it happen BIG!
