The Real Housewives of Lagos Is Finally Here
RHOLagos follows the opulent lives of six of the most glamorous women in Lagos, Nigeria.
When Showmax announced that The Real Housewives of Lagos would be hitting our screens “soon”, it sent social media in a frenzy. The excitement was valid because we’ve seen The Real Housewives of Johannesburg and Durban and so now to get another installment from the continent is indeed something to look forward to.
Much like other installments from the award-winning franchise, the Real Housewives of Lagos (RHOLagos) will be giving exclusive sneak peaks into the extravagant lives of some of the most moneyed women in Lagos. Plus, in true Real Housewives fashion, this one promises to pack a whole lot of luxury, high fashion and of course, drama.
While this is only the first Nigerian installment of the show, it is the third one in Africa and will be distributed internationally by NBCUniversal Formats, a division of Universal Studio Group. It will be the second Showmax Original reality series in Nigeria, following on from the success of I Am LAYCON, starring Big Brother Naija S5 winner Lekan Agbeleshe, which set a Nigerian first-day record for Showmax when it launched in February 2021.
Head of content at Showmax Africa, Candice Fangueiro said, “As an African brand, showcasing and telling African stories is at the core of our content production, so we are excited to be partnering with NBCUniversal Formats to bring The Real Housewives of Lagos to our subscribers. The Real Housewives of Durban, now in its second season, has smashed viewing records and delighted fans. Our Nigerian subscribers are in for a treat with the local edition.”
The release of Real Housewives of Lagos makes this the 16th international installment for the Real Housewives franchise.
“We’ve seen audiences across Africa devour The Real Housewives of Johannesburg and The Real Housewives of Durban. The Real Housewives franchise lends itself to localisation and we know our audience is going to love seeing the show reinvented Naija-style. We can’t wait to show the continent and the world another side of Lagos, with all the drama, high fashion and luxury you’d expect from The Real Housewives franchise,” added Candice Fangueiro.
