PUMA x SELECT Stories: The Business Of Visual Art

This month, PUMA will be teaming up with some of the hottest creative talent South Africa has to offer. The latest installment of their SELECT Stories at the PUMA Select Courtyard in Braamfontein will begin at 1pm sharp on Saturday 16 March. This couch Q&A session is a chance to get up close and personal with illustrator Russell Abrahams (aka Yay Abe), Brent Black of Spaza Studio as well as renowned photographer Austin Malema and finally, tattoo artist Ethel Laka.

Yay Abe hails from Cape Town and is known for his vibrant colors and stylized illustrations. After taking part in the Design Indaba Emerging Creatives programme in 2014, he has since gone on to pull off successful collabs with brands like Burger King.

Brent Black runs Spaza Studio where he works as an illustrator, designer and all-round creative. His contemporary, urban aesthetic shone through in his work for the local project “012 TCG”, a trading card game by 112 of Gauteng’s finest to illustrate Jozi stalwarts.

Austin Malema is fast becoming one of the most in-demand photographers in South Africa. His transition from being a videographer on South African telenovela The Queen , to positioning himself as a full time-photographer - the co-founder of photography agency Pixel Kollective is strategically positioning himself for more editorial and advertising work at the current moment. .

Ethel Laka is one of very few black South African female tattoo artists and her speciality includes images of nature and natural beings. She specialized in painting,drawing, sculpture & design.
